Fall Book Fair

Fall Book Fair
(Ms. Hardaway photo bombing during Grandparent Lunch at the book fair!)

Our fall book fair was by far the best we have ever experienced!  We had over $6000 in sales!!  That means a whole bunch of our sweet babies had someone that loved them enough to put high quality literature in their precious hands.  Ironically as I was writing this post our superintendent sent out his weekly email.  One thing he stated ties in perfectly with our book fair success...
Thank you, Dr. Largent for believing in the need for libraries in our schools and placing books in the hands of our students.

How does the EES library benefit from a book fair?
We were able to add 80 new titles to our library!  That's over $1000 worth of new library books!
Thank you so much to the 50 plus volunteers that helped make this all possible.  This is my third year in the library and I have never had such a generous response to my need for help.  I really do appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to working with you more throughout the year!

Speaking of volunteering, we are always in need of extra hands to perform various tasks in the library.  Swing by and see how you can make a difference in the lives of EES students!

First Week!!

http://goo.gl/0V8AkY

Well boys and girls, we have officially made it through the first week of the 2016-2017 school year!!  That deserves a weekend for sure!

While we are still working out a few kinks, for the most part we are off and running.  Our first and second grade students will be checking out books next week, woohoo!!  They will be allowed to check out two books.  Teachers will be guiding students to find their "just right books."  This process may take a couple of weeks so if you notice your child's library book is too hard or too easy for them don't worry, just take the time to enjoy the story!  Once your child has their AR level they will be choosing from their particular section in the library.  Be sure to check out the AR tab at the top of our website to familiarize yourself with the AR program.  There you will find a link to ARbookfind.com.  This website will allow you to enter the titles of books that you may have at home or have checked out from the public library and will give you the AR reading level.  If your child reads a book at his/her level outside of school and wants to take a test on it they can!  Just send them my way and we will be sure they get that opportunity.  The AR tab also has a link to AR Home Connect.  As a parent myself I have used this resource for years and love that I can register to get alerts for when my kiddo takes a test.  I also like to track their AR progress.  This is a very valuable resource.

We will wait until the second six weeks for our sweet kindergarten pirates to get adjusted to all the "new" in their little lives.  At that time they will be allowed to check out one book that they will keep for one week.  Please help your student build responsibility skills by always returning their library book on their library day.  Students will not check out a new book if they do not return their previos book.  Our kinder pirates have their own library collection to chose from.  The collection is not leveled, the books are intended to be read with the student, not by the student.  Take the opportunity to model appropriate reading skills.  The infographic below is an excellent place to start!

So very excited to be rolling out our new EES Library website. My hope is that this page will be your one stop shop when it comes to the services the library has to offer whether you be a teacher, student, or parent.  Please browse the pages above. I would love your feedback and I am sure I have forgotten something so please don’t hesitate to make suggestions that can provide a better library experience.

I am looking forward to another new year, my 15th!!  Wow, how can that be, it was seriously just yesterday!  EES is my second home and I love that I have been here to watch it grow and flourish.  Here’s to another fabulous year of investigation, exploration, creation and innovation!
